About Me

“I am from a big family which means I was born into a lot of people, so from the day I came home from hospital I was watching a team of people interact. I was watching dynamics and relationships and that’s where my fascination with people and ability to adapt to a wide range of situations comes from.”

Catherine Edwards is a qualified and insightful counsellor, offering professional, therapeutic support to her clients.

She is non-judgemental, does not make assumptions about what is best for her clients and she works collaboratively to help support people through a wide range of challenges and issues.

Catherine has an innate curiosity and interest in people. She is the seventh in a family of eight children and a life spent watching relationships and dynamics form within a large and diverse range of personalities has given her an  openness and ability to form relationships and gain trust quickly. She isn't shocked by peoples' stories, she doesn't judge and she works collaboratively to help clients to unravel a range of challenges and issues. Catherine supports her clients to gain insight into their feelings, thoughts and behaviours and believes that self insight is necessary for change and growth.

Seeing a counsellor can sometimes seem daunting, so Catherine would like to debunk a few myths and help her clients feel more comfortable with the process:

  • I am not just available to people in crisis. I can help you unravel a range of life issues or life transitions by listening to you and reflecting back to you. This might help you with how you’re feeling or it might help you come to conclusions or solutions to challenges you are facing.
  • I am non-judgemental, I will not be shocked by you and I am completely led by you. While, you are your only true expert, sometimes you will need to reflect back to help you unravel what you are feeling. Sometimes you might need some direction in a particular issue. I am insightful and will adapt to meet your needs.
  • You will not be “fixed” after seeing me. My job is to listen and help you consider your challenges from all angles. I can be a sounding board, I can help direct you to solutions where and if that is necessary, or I can offer you strategies that you can use in your every day life.
  • Think of counselling as therapeutic and professional support. Sometimes it can be very hard to reach out to family and friends for support. I offer you a way to work through your challenges in a non-judgemental and collaborative environment.

Catherine has a Bachelors of Behavioural Science from Griffith University and a Masters in Social Science (Counselling) from the Australian Catholic University. She recently completed the level 1 Gottman Training in Relationships Counselling.
