WHAT IS ANTICIPATORY ANXIETY? COULD I BE EXPERIENCING IT?
Wowser...what a start to the year. It's got a different feel to it that's for sure. A lot of people have said to me that they aren't feeling that same "reinvigorated, full of energy and hope" that they may experience in previous years, and are instead feeling tired and a bit anxious or unsure about things. This can become overwhelming as the head talk gets louder, and we then go into problem-solving-thought mode, and we are actually unclear about what the problem is.
This cycle doesn't solve anything or give us clarity, it keeps nurturing the niggles and the feelings become the worries! So essentially, we start worrying about worrying and can get overwhelmed. This is called anticipatory anxiety and doesn’t help to give you clarity or form a plan or move you forward. Instead, it takes up precious air-time and removes us from our connections, our relationships, our plans and our motivation.
